Aluminum 2024-t3, also known as "Super Dura Aluminum", is a representative grade of 2000 Al-Cu-Mg series high-strength aluminum alloys. In addition to high strength (lower than 7075), 2024-t3 has high plasticity, fatigue life, fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth resistance, and its cutting performance is also good, but its welding and corrosion resistance are poor.
2024-t3 aluminum alloy is a typical hard aluminum alloy in the aluminum-copper-magnesium system, its composition is relatively reasonable, and its comprehensive performance is good. This 2024 t3 aluminium alloy is produced in many countries and is the largest amount of duralumin. The 2024 aluminum alloy is characterized by high strength and certain heat resistance, and can be used as working parts below 150°C. At temperatures above 125°C, the strength of aluminum 2024 alloy is higher than that of 7075 alloy. The formability is better in the hot state, annealed and new quenched state, and the strengthening effect of heat treatment is remarkable, but the heat treatment process is strict. The corrosion resistance is poor, but it can be effectively protected by covering it with pure aluminum; it is easy to produce cracks during welding, but it can be welded or riveted by special processes. Widely used in aircraft structures, rivets, truck hubs, propeller components and various other structural parts.
Due to its high strength and good fatigue strength, 2024-t3 aluminum alloy is widely used in aircraft structures (skin, frame, rib beam, bulkhead, etc.), rivets, missile structures, propeller components and other structures. 2024-T3 aluminum alloy with a density of 2.73 g/cm³ (0.098 lb/in³).
After heat treatment, the aluminum 2024-t3 has excellent comprehensive properties and high temperature creep resistance, and has a small tendency to soften at high temperatures. It can be used for a long time at higher temperatures. It is mainly used for skins and engines of commercial and military aircraft that often withstand high temperatures of 121~150 °C. cabin, and other aircraft structural parts that require high strength. Due to its low corrosion resistance, 2024 is usually used in the aluminum-clad state.
