5052 h32 aluminum plate belongs to aluminum-magnesium alloy series, magnesium is the main alloying element, the content may be between 2.2-2.8%, in addition may contain a small amount of chromium. H32 is the state of work hardening, after strain hardening through the part of the annealing to get the stabilized state, so it should be higher strength than the pure aluminum or other state, while maintaining a certain degree of plasticity.
1. Mechanical Properties
- Strength: Tensile strength about 230-280 MPa, yield strength about 195 MPa, higher than pure aluminum and some non-heat-treated aluminum alloys (e.g. 3003 aluminum).
- Ductility: elongation of about 6-10%, with a certain molding ability, suitable for stamping and bending.
2. Corrosion resistance
- Excellent corrosion resistance, especially in seawater, humid environment, suitable for marine applications.
- The surface can be anodized or painted to further enhance protection.
3. Machining and Welding Properties
- Cold working performance is good, can be made into complex shapes; but heat treatment can not be strengthened, only through cold hardening to improve strength.
- Weldability is good, commonly used argon arc welding (TIG/MIG), but the strength may be reduced after welding.
4. Physical Properties
- Density of 5052 aluminum plate is about 2.68 g/cm³, lightweight advantage is obvious.
- Thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity medium, inferior to 1000 series pure aluminum, but better than stainless steel.
Applications of 5052 H32 aluminum plate including:
1. Transportation
- Ship: hull structure, deck, bulkhead (seawater corrosion resistance).
- Automobiles: fuel tanks, door panels, chassis components (lightweight needs).
- Rail transportation: cabin interiors, luggage racks.
2. Architecture and Structures
- Building curtain walls, roofing materials, decorative panels (high weather resistance requirements).
- Corrosion-resistant parts for bridges or outdoor facilities.
3. Electronics & Equipment
- Electronic equipment housings, heat sink substrates (taking into account light weight and processability).
- Precision parts such as instrument panels and chassis.
4. Chemical & Energy
- Chemical vessel linings, piping (resistant to acid and alkali environments).
- Solar racks, wind power equipment components (lightweight structural needs).
5. Other Fields
- Food processing equipment (need to be exposed to humid environments, such as refrigeration equipment).
- Advertising signs, lighting fixtures (easy processing and corrosion resistance).
Comparison with other aluminum alloys
Comparison of 3003 aluminum plate: 5052 H32 plate has higher strength and better corrosion resistance, suitable for higher load environment.
Comparison of 6061-T6: 5052 H32 can not be heat-treated to strengthen, but better corrosion resistance and weldability, while 6061 higher strength, often used in high-strength structures.
With its balanced strength, corrosion resistance and processing performance, 5052 H32 aluminum plate is widely used in marine, transportation, construction and other fields, and is ideal for lightweight design.
